proprioceptors

Proprioceptors are sensory nerve endings that respond to the stimulus of changes in tissue stretch primarily in the balance organ (vestibular cilia), muscles, tendons and joints. Proprioceptors thus sense the relative positions and paths of motion of body parts with no influence from exteroceptors that respond to light, color, sound, smell, touch and taste or from interoceptors that respond to pain and discomfort.
